Grasyma is a more than 100 year old company in the northern Bavarian stone industry with the operation of stone works , quarries and stone grinding shops . The company's name is an acronym of Gra nit , Sy enit and Ma rmor .
origin
The forerunner was the granite carving and grinding shop founded by Georg Frister in Seußen near Arzberg (Upper Franconia) in 1886 . The stonemason company Vereinigte Fichtelgebirgs-Granit-, Syenit- und Marmorwerke AG (short: Grasyma) was founded in 1909 by the Kommerzienrat Carl Wölfel in Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge .
founding
When the United Fichtelgebirgs-Granit-, Syenit- und Marmorwerke AG was founded in 1909, twelve previously privately operated quarries in the Fichtelgebirge as well as the granite and marble works in Seußen, the granite works Ackermann in Weißenstadt , the GA Bruchner granite works in Wunsiedel and Heppenheim , the granite works with Steinschleiferei W. Franke and Reul at the Kirchenlamitz train station and the Wilhelm Wölfel granite and syenite works in Selb merged. The result was a company with around 1000 employees and a total of 21 quarries.
history
The United Fichtelgebirgs-Granit-, Syenit- und Marmorwerke AG supplied granites, syenites and marbles in Germany and Europe as well as to Canada, Mexico, Cuba and Venezuela at the beginning of the 20th century. The company was one of the largest stone cutting companies in Germany. The delivery program included natural stone facades and stone columns, elements of interior design and monuments. In today's spa gardens of the city of Weißenstadt, the premises of the granite works Ackermann, later Grasyma, with workshops and grinding shops were originally located. Display boards in the ruins of the stone grinding shop remind of the history of the stone industry in the Fichtel Mountains.
In 1957 the company was changed to Grasyma AG and in 1970 to Grasyma GmbH. The plant could be reached via the Kirchenlamitz – Weißenstadt railway line . Today it operates under the name Grasyma Natursteine Steinbruch GmbH & Co.KG in Wunsiedel. The company is currently (as of 2008) breaking granite in the Waldstein and Kössein quarries in the Fichtel Mountains.
