Gray stone (Dotzigen)

The gray stone is an erratic block or boulder made of epidote - serizite - gneiss near Dotzigen in the canton of Bern , Switzerland . The boulder with dimensions of approx. 5 × 3 × 2 meters is located on the forest and hiking trail 'Dotzigen- Büren an der Aare' on the Dotzigenberg. In 1870, the then geology professor Isidor Bachmann from Bern successfully tried to preserve the gray stone with the civic community of Dotzigen as the owner. Since June 18, 1954, the gray stone has been one of the protected geological objects of the Canton of Bern under the name 'Bachmannstein'. Other witnesses during the Würm been initiated in the area of glacial Rhone glacier are the Schalenstein Stedtiberg , the blue stone and the level stone .
