Graufthal

Graufthal , formerly (in the 18th century) Krauffthal ( Carte de Cassini ), is a district of the municipality Eschbourg in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

The rock houses of Graufthal

The main attraction of the place are the rock houses ( Maisons des Rochers ). The caves on the steep slope, which were initially used as storage facilities, were converted into apartments from the 18th century. The last resident, Catherine Ottermann, died in 1958.
