Graz book table

The Grazer Buchtisch (also Grazer Buchwiege ) is a device for retro-digitizing sensitive books such as incunabula and codices . It was developed by Manfred Mayer at the Department for Special Collections at the University Library in Graz . Due to an opening angle of less than 140 °, the book cover is protected in comparison to the recording with the book cradle. Recording at an even smaller opening angle is possible , for example, with the Wolfenbüttel book mirror .

The Graz book table consists of a table construction on which a book cradle is mounted as a holder . For scanning, individual book pages are placed manually on a so-called vacuum arm, which holds the book page by suction and slightly tensions it. The special construction of the book table ensures that the camera positioned above the book is always oriented at right angles to the book page. With newer devices a laser marking helps with the positioning of the templates.

Almost any cameras can be used for recording; high-resolution digital single-lens reflex cameras or large format cameras with scanback are common .
