The Grazer Salonorchester came into being after holding a guest course for Austrian salon orchestra tradition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . After the ensemble's first appearances at concerts, balls and dance events at the university, inquiries from concert organizers at home and abroad followed (as a representation of culture in Austria, for example in Sarajevo , Taiwan and Algeria ). So it was decided to organize the Grazer Salon Orchestra as an independent "Association for the Maintenance of Salon Music Culture ". The line-up comes from the Viennese salon orchestra tradition and consists of 12–20 musicians, led by a violinist .

Standing violinist and musical director has been Klaus Eberle, Grazer Philharmoniker at the Graz Opera since the beginning . He is the bearer of the Robert Stolz Certificate of Honor, awarded in 1996 by Einzi Stolz .

Instrumentation: standing violin, violin 1, violin obligate, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, percussion and piano (accordion ad libitum)

repertoire

Based on the original function of the salon orchestra to present popular melodies from operas, operettas and current hits as well as dance music in a wide variety of musical arrangements and line-ups to interested listeners outside of the cultural institutions, the repertoire of the Graz salon orchestra is constantly expanding with current hits up into the 21st century expanded. Besides the traditional salon orchestra literature consisting of works by Strauss, Mozart, Lanner, Lehar, Waldteufel, Offenbach and so on, and popular songs of the early 20th century have their own arrangements of Broadway - musicals , blockbusters , pop classics and new compositions part of every presentation. The Grazer Salonorchester places particular emphasis on the works of the Graz composer Robert Stolz . Klaus Eberle plays some special arrangements on the replica of an original violinophone , which was only used for a short time for shellac clay recordings at the beginning of the 20th century and which produces a unique sound.
