Gregor Eichele

Gregor Eichele (born September 10, 1952 in Basel ) is a Swiss chemist and molecular biologist .

Career

After graduating from the Münchenstein high school , Eichele studied chemistry and molecular biology. After receiving his doctorate from the University of Basel in 1980, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the field of developmental biology at the University of California in San Francisco from 1981 to 1984 . From 1985 Eichele was a member of the Faculty of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Harvard Medical School in Boston and since 1991 Professor of Biochemistry and Neurobiology at Baylor College of Medicine , Houston . In 1998 he switched to the then Max Planck Institute for Experimental Endocrinology in Hanover as director and scientific member . Eichele has been Director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry since 2006 . There he heads the genes and behavior department .

He has been awarded several prizes for his research, including the Friedrich Miescher Prize , the highest Swiss award for contributions to the field of biochemistry.
