Greifensee-Storen-Wildsberg is a prehistoric settlement on Greifensee in the municipality of Greifensee in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland . The site is part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region (UNESCO World Heritage Site) .

Location and findings

The oldest finds date from 3762 to 3755 BC. The remains of the settlement extend over a large area on the right-hand (north-eastern) bank of the Greifensee in the municipality of Greifensee. The location on a steep slope of the lake area that was silted up in modern times is remarkable. From a scientific point of view, a settlement phase of the late Horgen culture is of particular interest. Two bronze daggers found in 1934 and a wire spool from the Pfyner culture are early evidence of metalworking in the region. With the exception of the remains of settlements on the lakeshore ( Böschen ), the extensive and protected area has so far been archaeologically largely unexplored in its entire extent.

UNESCO World Heritage Site and Cultural Property of National Importance

The settlement remains are among the 111 sites with the greatest scientific potential that were included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites on June 27, 2011 as part of the lakeside settlements in the Alpine region .

In the Swiss inventory of cultural goods of national importance , the wetland settlement is listed as class A objects.
