The following year the band name was changed to Grendel. In addition, the EP Broken Dream and the demo Endless War were recorded in July and November respectively. The respective recording sessions took place under the direction of Nino Laurenne in the Sonic Pump Studios , whereby the cast consisted of the guitarists Mika Kivi and Jussi Kraft, the bassist Kari Martikainen, the keyboardist Juha Terrilä and the drummer Jarkko Piipari. In 2001, Endless War was released on the sampler Northernbreeze II . At about the same time, singer Jarno Blom left the band and was replaced by Mikko Virtanan the following year. In 2002 the group also held their first two appearances and a second EP was recorded under the name Fight Against Time . There was another appearance in 2003, as well as the Demo Promo 2003 . This was followed by another in 2004 under the name Something to Remind and five other appearances. The recordings from 2004 and 2005 had also taken place in the Sonic Pump Studios. In 2005 the song The Times of Agony could be heard on the sampler Noise.fi Vol. 1 and the debut album Lost Beyond Retrieval was recorded. It was published in 2006. In 2005, the band completed a total of eleven appearances, in 2006 there were 13 in 2007 steered the group Drifting Away for Fire Sampler No. 5 and another demo was recorded with Promo 2007 . Also was quicksand on the DVD Firebox Video Collection included. In 2007, the recordings for the second album began, and 18 concerts were held. In 2008 The Deaf Cult was used as a contribution to the sampler Tuhma Vol. 2 . In addition, a record deal was signed with Firebox Records , whereupon the single Half-Life and the album Change Through Destruction appeared. The album took 19th place in the Finnish album charts. Besides a tour of Finland with Poisonblack , the band was on stage 27 times. In 2009 Grendel contributed the song One Desire to a sampler for Terrorizer magazine . The band owed the invitation to the Finnish Metal Expo to the attention paid to them . In 2010 the first gig outside of Finland took place in Finnsnes, Norway . In addition, the band continued to tour their home country and other parts of Europe and was seen live 25 times this year. In the same year, the band began recording their third album, which was released in 2011 under the name Corrupt to the Core . Immediately afterwards they went on a tour of Finland, so that the group made it to a total of 12 concerts this year. She also acted as the opening act for Amorphis in the Nosturi nightclub . In the same year, a music video for the song Apocalyptic Rain was created and bassist Kari Martikainen left the cast.

style

Tobias Blum from Rock Hard described the music of A Change Through Destruction as a mixture of melodic death and melodic metal. On the album there is a catchy mixture of "clearly sung melodies and accurate hooklines " as well as "nasty growls " and "really hard guitars", which avoids "cheesy" or "after countless conventional Scandinavian melodic bands" to sound. The production is clear, but a bit sterile and you move too often in the medium speed range. Benjamin from Metal.de also summarized the music as a mix of melodic death and melodic metal. The songs would mostly move in the medium speed range. "Keyboard-guitar duels" and the powerful vocals of Virtanen as well as "growls, catchy riffs and an incredible amount of energy" are striking . To be considered classic Melodic Death Metal, however, it lacks a bit of aggressiveness and speed.
