Border forest

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The border forest is an approximately 250 hectare forest area with an area of 4500 meters by 500 meters south of Sonneberg , Neuspremberg , Neufriedersdorf and Friedersdorf directly on the state border with the Czech Republic with a population of spruce , pine , oak and beech . The largest elevation in the western part, the 401 meter high Sonnenberg (also called Buchberg), has a flattened summit on which granodiorite blocks are scattered and on which thin, stony and block-rich soils can be found. To the west of the Sonnebergkuppe on clay surfaces that form waterlogging locations, several spring arms collect in the Teichflössel, which is then dammed up near Neuspremberg to form several fish ponds and an outdoor leisure pool. It unites in the district of Neuspremberg with the trout raft coming from the Czech Republic . The Richterflössel (also known as the raft), which flows over the former frog mill to the Spree , rises in the southeast just behind the Czech border .

During the GDR era, part of the forest was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the Löbau district in order to naturalize mouflon from Czechoslovakia .

flora

The border forest consists primarily of spruce stands, in wet locations also of pedunculate oak and birch forest interspersed with common ash. Many montane plant species are located in the forest area between Sonnenberg in the west and the former frog mill and the Blockhaus forest restaurant in the south-east at an altitude of between approximately 340 and 400 meters. The island-like forest meadows belong to typical rough meadows .

The forest is part of the "Oberlausitzer Bergland" landscape protection area and areas of the forest along the trout and Richterflössels are protected as part of the FFH area "Spree region above Bautzen".
