Gretl Komposch

Gretl Komposch , (born Höfferer and actually Margaretha Maria Elisabeth ; * February 22, 1923 in Wiener Neustadt ; † August 23, 2019 in Villach ) was an Austrian composer and choir director of the "Grenzlandchor Arnoldstein".

Life

Komposch founded the Arnoldstein Grenzlandchor in 1947 and was its director until 1987; In 1995 she founded the choir “The Young at Heart”. The state of Carinthia awarded her the Great and the Golden Badge of Honor, the Republic of Austria awarded her the title of Professor and the Golden Badge of Merit . It also made singing in a mixed quartet (2 men - 2 women voices) socially acceptable in Carinthia.

Ms. Komposch, who wrote the song "Das Radl der Zeit", had a hard time as the first Carinthian choir director, but decades of work paid off in favor of the Arnoldstein border choir.
