Gretl Zottmann

Gretl Zottmann (born November 21, 1913 in Weißenburg in Bavaria , † November 13, 1975 in Oberaudorf ) was a German writer and poet .

Life

Gretl Weberpals was born in 1913 as the daughter of a surveyor in Weißenburg in Central Franconia . After visiting the Labenwolf Lyceum in Nuremberg , she began training in the arts and crafts textile workshops. But she had to break off her training in order to be able to devote herself to caring for her sick mother. In 1932 she had her first success as a writer. She wrote stories and poems that often had their Franconian homeland as their subject. She also worked as a freelancer for various newspapers and magazines as well as for radio.

In 1936 she married Hans Zottmann, a bank clerk, and in 1938 gave birth to their only child, Dieter. She lost her house in a bombing raid in 1943. In 1945 Hans Zottmann returned from the war and the family moved back to Nuremberg. Gretl immediately became active again as a writer, but published her work in anthologies. From 1964, her works appeared under her own name.

In 1968 she became a member of the Association of German Writers . Her last decade was marked by the battle against her cancer. She died in 1975 at the age of 61.
