Gries Bridge
The Griesbrücke is a pure bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Saale in the north of Jena . It connects Jena-Nord in the west and Wenigenjena in the east.
history
The bridge has existed in its current form since the early 1990s. Its original predecessor building replaced the downstream Wiesensteg from 1927/1928 . In the 1950s or 1960s, the military built a wooden makeshift bridge in its place . Bridges of this type were built by pioneers of the Soviet armed forces stationed in the GDR in many places as technical assistance, where a low load-bearing capacity was sufficient, since the capacities of the GDR construction industry for building small bridges were extremely limited. Since the provisional building was in need of renovation and usually had to be completely closed in the event of flooding , a new building was planned as soon as possible after the political change in 1989 .
Use and environment
Pedestrians and cyclists take their way across the bridge. a. between the residential areas of Wenigenjena and the Wenigenjenaer Ufer on the one hand and the Saalepark industrial park , the Saalbahnhof and the Damenviertel part of the city center on the other.
On the western side, the bridge with traffic lights meets the Wiesenstraße, which runs there as B7 , and forms the extension of Löbstedter Straße for pedestrians and cyclists. Until the new construction of the Wiesenstrasse through the Saale floodplain, the urban planning link between the Griesbrücke and the railway underpass for the route to the Damenviertel and the Saalbahnhof was even more evident.
On the eastern side, the bridge joins the traffic-calmed street Am Gries and at the same time meets the large parking lot Am Gries , where circus tents etc. Ä. Be set up.
Adjacent bridges
Upstream is the Camsdorfer Bridge , downstream the Wiesenbrücke.
