The Griessee is located in the nature reserve of the Seeon Lakes . It is a moor lake in the forest, is one of the warmest lakes in Bavaria and has a good fish population .
The lake is part of the ice crumbling landscape and was created from a block of dead ice that broke off the glacier .
The waters III. Order has oligotrophic water quality and in the Seeoner Bach an outflow towards Alz . The water level is 533.40 m above sea level. The 470 m long and 200 m wide lake has a circumference of 1.35 km and a surface of 9.20 hectares with a volume of 429,000 m³, an average depth of 4.60 m and a maximum depth of 11.60 m. Its catchment area is 2.50 km².
