Grigori Kozintsev ( Russian Григорий Михайлович Козинцев ; born March 9 . Jul / 22. March  1905 greg. In Kiev ; † 11. May 1973 in Leningrad ) was a Soviet director and screenwriter .

Life

Kosinsev was born the son of a doctor. As a teenager he founded an experimental theater with Sergei Jutkewitsch and wrote plays for it. Kosinzew studied painting at the Kiev Art School from 1919 to 1920. Alexandra Exter was one of his teachers . In 1920 he moved to Saint Petersburg, where he studied painting at the Russian Art Academy until 1922 and met Leonid Trauberg . With him, Sergej Gerasimow and Sergej Jutkewitsch he founded the "Factory of the Eccentric Actor" (FEKS) in 1922, which took its inspiration from folk art, cabaret and the circus.

Kosinzew made his first film with Trauberg in 1924, The Adventures of an October Child, and worked with him until 1946. Only when the film Simple People was reprimanded by the Central Committee in 1946 and subsequently withdrawn did they end their collaboration. Kosinzew died in 1973 and was buried in the Tikhvin cemetery in the Alexander Nevsky monastery .
