Grimmia trichophylla (hair leaf pillow moss) is a deciduous moss - species from the family Grimmiaceae .
features
Grimmia trichophyllaforms loose, easily disintegrating, yellow-green to dark-green lawns that shimmer gray through the glass hair. The arching, ascending to upright stems are up to 3 centimeters high. The stem cross-section shows a small central cord. The dry, loosely fitting and slightly twisted, moist protruding leaves are 2 to 3.5 millimeters long, 0.3 to 0.4 millimeters wide, gradually drawn out from a wider base into a long point and often have a long, slightly toothed to almost smooth one Glass hair. The leaf margin is often bent outwards on only one side, the upper half of the leaf is clearly keeled and V-shaped in cross section. The well-developed leaf vein is fairly equally wide, flattened at the bottom, otherwise rounded on the back. The rib cross-section shows three to four deuter cells in the lowest part and two basal (located on the upper side) in the middle part.
The lamina is largely unicellular, with the exception of the two to four-layered leaf margins down to the middle and individual smaller two-celled areas of the lamina in the upper half of the leaf. The lamina cells on the base of the leaf are elongated near the ribs, rectangular and evenly thickened, becoming shorter towards the edges and often elongated again at the outermost edge; In the upper part of the leaf, the cells are short rectangular to mostly rounded-square, with moderately thick-walled and somewhat bulky cell walls.
The diocesan moss rarely has any fruit. The initially bent down, later more erect seta is up to 5 millimeters long, the elongated, egg-shaped, pale brown spore capsule has 8 distinct longitudinal ribs. The capsule lid is beaked straight, the kalyptra lobed like a cap. Occasionally brood bodies are formed, they are multicellular and are numerous on short carriers on the back of the leaf near the leaf base.
