Architecture and history

The five-storey residential and commercial building was built in 1889 in the neo-renaissance style . The building was built by the Magdeburg construction and credit bank under Johann August Duvigneau and Albert Favreau for the glove manufacturer B. Trenkmann. From 1896 it was used as a factory for bicycle accessories and from 1899 by the metal printing and stamping shop Beisser und Fliege. Despite the commercial use as a factory, the building is in the style of upscale contemporary rental houses. The complex also included a stable with a coach house and a coach house. In addition, a workshop wing and a boiler house were built.

The main building, like the two to two-and-a-half-story annexes, is plastered. To the north to Grosse Diesdorfer Strasse the facade is designed with thirteen axes, with a flat, three-axis risalit in the middle and a flat uniaxial risalit on the western edge . The east facade to the west ring has six axes and is therefore significantly shorter. The facade has rustication on the ground floor and the first floor . In addition, the window openings on these floors are designed as round arches . The corner situation is accentuated by a single-axis facade facing directly towards the intersection. Together with one axis of each side wing, this area is created as a flat risalit. There is also a single-axis box bay window in front of the first and second floors. The cornice is decorated with a serrated frieze. There were originally balustrades above the risalites , but these have not been preserved.

Originally there were rooms inside the building that extended over several floors. They served as sewing shops, warehouses and also office space for the glove factory. The first floor contained a representative apartment of the factory owner, on the ground floor there were also two smaller apartments for factory employees. Shops were added later.

In the local register of monuments , the residential and commercial building is recorded as a monument under registration number 094 82561 .

The building is a testament to the textile industry in Magdeburg and the connection between living and production areas.
