Geographical location

The Große Knetzberg is somewhat higher than the neighboring mountain ranges and largely separated from them; In addition, it protrudes far into the upstream flatter Main landscape, which is around 150 meters lower. It also forms the striking northern tip and the border between the Steigerwald and the Main Valley. At the foot of the mountain are the villages of Eschenau , Oberschwappach and Knetzgau .

Attractions

On the mountain stood between 2000 and 200 BC. Christ a mighty hill fort (refuge castle). Only traces of the fortifications, ramparts and moats can be seen.
