The Great Priepertsee is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District 15 kilometers south of Neustrelitz . It is about 2.3 kilometers long and 600 meters wide and belongs to the Neustrelitzer Kleinseenland in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Havel flows through it from north to south.
The lake is located in the municipality of Priepert . At the southern tip at the transition to the Ellbogensee is the place Priepert itself. The lake has an approximately rectangular shape with a distinctive bay, the Kleiner Priepertsee in the northern half. The deepest part of the lake with about 32 meters is in the southern part of the lake.
The Große Priepertsee is part of the 97-kilometer-long federal waterway Obere Havel-Wasserstraße (OHW) of waterway class I; The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .
There is a concrete water ski track on the Priepertsee.
