The Großer Schnaaper See ( Danish Store Snap Sø ) is located a few hundred meters northwest of the Windebyer Noors at Gut Schnaap in the area of the town of Eckernförde in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district . It borders on its north bank with the municipality of Gammelby and on its west and south-west bank with the municipality of Windeby .
The lake has an area of almost 17 hectares and a shore length of 1.66 kilometers. It is up to about 20 meters deep. The lake has a bathing area operated by the municipality of Windeby on Eckernförde area, which has good water quality.
The lake flows out via the Schnaaper Au first into the Kleiner Schnaaper See and from there into the Windebyer Noor . The surface water catchment area of the two Schnaap lakes and the Au is 4.445 square kilometers in total, that for the Großer Schnaap lake alone is 1.04 square kilometers.
