The Great Wiesenberg is 645.4  m above sea level. NHN high eastern foothills of the Schalke massif in the Harz . It is located near Schulenberg in the Upper Harz in the Lower Saxony district of Goslar .

The Große Wiesenberg rises in the Upper Harz in the Harz Nature Park . Its summit is about 1.5 km north-northwest of Schulenberg in the Upper Harz , which belongs to the town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld . Its landscape leads west over the Altetalskopf ( 693.4  m ) and Riesenbachskopf (approx.  700  m ) to Schalke (approx.  762  m ). The Kleine Wiesenberg ( 512.5  m ) connects to the south .

On the forest- covered Große Wiesenberg there are parts of the Harz landscape protection area (district of Goslar) ( CDDA no. 321402; designated 2001; 389.75  km² in size).

Natural allocation

The Große Wiesenberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Harz (No. 38), in the main unit Upper Harz (380) and in the subunit Goslarer Bergland (380.2) to the natural area Gosebergland (380.21). The landscape drops to the southeast into the Okerbergland (380.30) natural area, which is part of the Altenauer Bergland sub-unit (380.3).

Flowing waters

The small Aeke rises on the northern flank of the Großer Wiesenberg , which flows into the branch of the Okerstausees lake fed by the Große Bramke in the Mulltal , and the small brook in the Alten Tal rises on the southern flank , the water of which flows into the Riesenbach and then into the von the Schalke- fed arm of the reservoir to flow into.

Sports

On the eastern flank of the Großer Wiesenberg there are two ski lifts (200 and 450 m in length) in the Ski-Alpinum with several ski slopes of all levels of difficulty. A snowboard fun park is also available. Cross-country skiers will find an extensive network of trails in the entire region.

In the warm season the Ski-Alpinum becomes a Bike-Alpinum ; then a lift takes mountain bikers up, and several runs - for downhill, freeride, biker cross and dirt slopestyle - take you down to the valley. There are good opportunities for hikers.
