Great Palace (Bad Doberan)
The Great Palace is a listed secular building in Bad Doberan in the Rostock district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).
History and architecture
From 1806 to 1809 the former Grand Ducal Palace was built according to plans by Carl Theodor Severin based on the classicist buildings of his teachers Carl Gotthard Langhans and Friedrich Gilly . The main cornice protrudes, the attic is low. The portal niche in the middle is behind four set Ionic columns . Behind the foyer , the upper floor is accessible via a single flight of stairs. The side rooms on both floors are accessed by a transverse corridor.
The oval room is furnished with a French wallpaper, it shows the story of Amor and Psyche and was designed by L. Lafitte and Merry-Joseph Blondel. The grisaille-like wallpaper was probably printed by Dufour in Paris around 1820.
The Great Palace is currently (2014) used as the administrative building for the district.
