Großheiligenhäuschen (Koblenz)
The Großheiligenhäuschen is a Catholic chapel in Koblenz . The little holy house in the Güls district was built in the 15th century outside the town on the road to Winningen and invited people passing by to pray and rest or to offer them protection in the event of storms .
history
The Großheiligenhäuschen was built in the 15th century, which was confirmed by the dating of remains of wall paintings inside. A porch was added in the late 17th century. In the chapel there was previously a late Gothic Pietà (16th century), which is now in the parish church of St. Servatius . The last renovation took place from September 2007 to May 2008, during which the historical color scheme was restored.
construction
The Großheiligenhäuschen stands a little lower than today's street level. The south-facing chapel has a three-sided choir . A shield gable with a stone ridge cross rises above the entrance . In front of the entrance is a canopy standing on two pillars with a high half- pyramid roof . A window with a thin central column and two late Romanesque leaf capitals is set in next to the pointed arched entrance gate . Inside there are remains of wall paintings from the 15th century, which are supposed to represent the 14 helpers in need. In a central niche above the masonry altar there is a Pietà from the 19th century. In front of the Großheiligenhäuschen there is a so-called Kiepenstein made of basalt lava , which was previously used for storing loads.
