Great stone graves near Boberow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone graves near Boberow were probably three megalithic graves of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Boberow , a district of Karstädt in the Prignitz district ( Brandenburg ). They were destroyed between the 17th and 19th centuries. According to Johann Christoph Bekmann , one of the graves was located southeast of the village in the direction of Mankmuß . It had already been destroyed before Bekmann's research at the beginning of the 18th century. In a locality report from 1844 two hills with mighty stones are mentioned. Most of the stones were then blown up and used as building material. The exact location of the hills was not noted. According to an oral communication from Eduard Handtmann to Alfred Götze , it was later about 500 m northeast of Boberow, directly at the mill, a collection of large stones, which were the remains of a large stone grave. It is not certain whether it was the remains of one of the graves destroyed around 1844. It is not possible to reconstruct their original appearance in any of the graves. About 1.2 km northwest of Boberow is the still preserved large stone grave Mellen .
