geography

The place is 6 kilometers southwest of Karstädt and 14 kilometers west-northwest of Perleberg . The neighboring towns are Dargardt , Forsthof and Stavenow in the northeast, Mesekow and Laaslich in the southeast, Birkholz in the southwest and Boberow and Gosedahl in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of Mankmuß comes from the year 1340. In it the place was recorded under "tho Manckemose".

Before 1816 the place belonged to the district of Lenzen in the province of Prignitz ; part of the Kurmark of the Mark Brandenburg and then came to the Westprignitz district . On the Urmeß table sheets "1388 Rambow" and "1389 Karstädt", both from 1843, Mankmuß is recorded as a street village with a church and an estate. In 1900 the village with its municipal area of 478 hectares formed the municipal district and the manor with its 354 hectares was an estate district. The latter was dissolved in 1907. In 1928 the manor district of Birkholz was incorporated into Mankmuß. In addition to the place that previously belonged to the Stavenow estate, the "von Hinkeldeysche Forstbesitz" also became part of the community.

From 1952 Mankmuß belonged to the Perleberg district in the Schwerin district . In 1992 the municipality of Mankmuß joined the newly formed Karstädt Office and in 1993 became part of what is now the Prignitz district. The previously independent municipality of Mankmuß was incorporated into Karstädt on December 31, 2002.
