Groß Warnow is a district of the municipality of Karstädt in the Prignitz district in Brandenburg .

geography

The place is 11 kilometers northwest of Karstädt and 22 kilometers northwest of Perleberg . The neighboring towns are Neese in the north, Marienhof , Hühnerland and Klein Warnow in the northeast, Kolonie in the east, Neu Pinnow and Sargleben in the southeast, Pinnow in the southwest, and Beckentin and Kremmin in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of Groß Warnow comes from the year 1312. In it, the place was recorded under "in villa Warnowe".

Before 1816 the place belonged to the district of Lenzen in the province of Prignitz ; part of the Kurmark of the Mark Brandenburg and then came to the Westprignitz district . From 1952 Groß Warnow belonged to the Perleberg district in the Schwerin district . In 1992 the community of Groß Warnow joined the newly formed Karstädt Office and in 1993 became part of what is now the Prignitz district.

The previously independent community of Groß Warnow was incorporated into Karstädt on December 31, 2001.
