They were probably destroyed in the 19th century. Their original locations were rediscovered in the 1960s by Elisabeth Schlicht , who subsequently carried out an excavation at grave 2 .

location

The graves were located east of Emmeln.

description

Grave 1

Grave 1 had an east-west oriented burial chamber with a length of 11 m and a width of 2 m. Due to its size, it must have been a large dolmen or a passage grave.

Grave 2

Grave 2 had a north-west-south-east oriented burial chamber with an outer length of 12.5 m and an outer width of 2.2 m. Here, too, it must have been a large dolmen or a passage grave. During Schlicht's excavation, around 1,300 objects were unearthed.
