Sprockhoff no. 492

The megalithic graves near Posewald were three grave systems of the Neolithic funnel cup culture in the vicinity of Posewald, a district of the municipality Putbus in the district of Western Pomerania-Rügen ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ), of which only one still exists today. This bears the Sprockhoff number 492 and is also known as Blocksberg .

location

The preserved grave is only a few meters north of Posewald in the gusset of the road and railway line leading to Viervitz . There are several other large stone graves in the vicinity. The megalithic graves at Seelvitz are 670 m east, the megalithic graves at Nadelitz 1.7 km south-east and the megalithic graves at Lonvitz 2 km west . There are also several burial mounds at Nadelitz , Nistelitz and Putbus .

Research history

On the detailed register cards of the area around Lancken-Granitz, which were made between 1692 and 1709 as part of the Swedish land survey of Western Pomerania , one of the graves seems to be already recorded. The first description of the graves was made in 1829 by Friedrich von Hagenow , who was able to identify three more complexes in Posewald. His research was published in 1904 by Rudolf Baier . The first detailed documentation was carried out by Ernst Sprockhoff , who measured the remaining grave in 1931 and published it in his Atlas of Germany's Megalithic Tombs.

description

The preserved grave 1

The complex has a remains of a barren bed , the exact shape and size of which could not be recognized when Ernst Sprockhoff took the picture. Ewald Schuldt addressed it as trapezoidal in another documentation. There are four more surrounding stones on the east side, three or four on the north side. None of them is still in situ . The burial chamber is oriented north-south and belongs to the large dolmen type . It still has three wall stones on both long sides, all of which are still in situ. The northern end stone is also still in its original position, but has been blown up. Two of the capstones are still present. One lies abducted and blown up west of the grave, the second lies broken inside the chamber. A stone slab 1.0 m long and 0.2 m wide adjoins it to the south, which may mark the entrance. An estimate of the length of the burial chamber depends on this. If the slab belongs to the entrance, the chamber would be about 3 m long, otherwise its original length could have been over 4 m. The width of the chamber is 2.75 m.
