The large stone grave Angelslo-Zuid is a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic western group of the funnel cup culture in Angelslo , a residential area of the municipality of Emmen in the Dutch province of Drenthe . It bears the Van Giffen number D47.

location

The grave is now in the middle of the Angelslo development area on a green area at Haselackers. There are several other large stone graves in the vicinity. 330 m north-northwest is the large stone grave Angelslo-Noord (D46) and 2.3 km west-northwest is the large stone grave Emmerdennen (D47).

Research history

In 1809 Johannes Hofstede carried out an excavation either here or at grave D46. The grave was first reliably mentioned in 1819 by L. Willinge. In 1878 an investigation was carried out by William Collings Lukis and Henry Dryden . In 1918 Albert Egges van Giffen documented the facility for his atlas of the Dutch megalithic graves. Archaeological investigations and restorations took place in 1960 and 1997 . Since 1983 the facility has been a national monument ( Rijksmonument ).

description

The complex is a south-southeast-north-northwest oriented passage grave . A stone enclosure could not be found. The burial chamber has a length of 6.9 m and a width of 2 m. It consists of five pairs of wall stones on the long sides and one end stone each on the narrow sides. Of the original five capstones, van Giffen's investigation in 1918 revealed that only two remained. A third stone was brought in from elsewhere in 1960 and supplemented. In 1997 two more stones were added so that the grave now gives a complete impression again.
