Great stone grave Dargast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave Dargast was a megalithic burial complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Dargast , a district of Sassnitz in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It was probably destroyed in the 19th century. The existence of the grave was recorded by hand in the 1820s by Friedrich von Hagenow . His notes, which were intended to record the entire inventory of the megalithic graves on Rügen and in New Western Pomerania , were published by Rudolf Baier in 1904 . The Dargast facility was only included in a list. Their exact location, dimensions and orientation are unknown. It is only noted that it was a large dolmen without a stone enclosure.

In 1819 Johann Jacob Grümbke mentions that two years earlier a stone grave had been uncovered near Darge (or Dargelin) on the Jasmund peninsula , and several flint axes were discovered. Since the place names mentioned are not handed down there, Dargast could be meant in Sassnitz and this stone grave could therefore be identical with the large stone grave Dargast.
