Great stone grave sacrificial stone

The large stone grave Marienborn 1 (called the sacrificial stone) is a cult site that is only partially visible. It is located in the Lappwald of Marienborn, southeast of Helmstedt in Saxony-Anhalt . There are only three cap stones and the upper edge of a bearing stone above the forest floor. The rest is probably still in the ground. Hans-Jürgen Beier gives the finding “large stone grave” 1995 as secured.

In the front capstone there are two possibly artificially recessed, approximately head-sized circular formations, which gave the complex the name "sacrificial stone". There are some bowls on the rear capstone . The material is tuber quartzite , in which bulbous indentations and bulges are not uncommon.

The Marienborn Forest and the Harbke Forest have become better known among prehistorians as megalithic areas , which until 1989 belonged to the "forbidden zone" due to the close inner German border . Hans-Jürgen Beier suspects that a larger part of the systems has been sunk into the ground, which together with the short chamber length is a characteristic of the "Hercynian megalithic", which is primarily associated with the Walternienburg-Bernburg culture . The Lappwald and its fringes are to be understood as a transition zone between the Nordic and Central German culture area of the funnel cup culture (TBK).
