The Grohnder ferry , which is operated today, was made available in 1931 to continue to ensure the ferry connection between Grohnde and Frenke in Lower Saxony across the Weser .
history
After the Grohnder Weser Bridge, which existed in the 15th and 16th centuries, was destroyed in the Thirty Years War , a ferry has secured the connection since 1633. Originally this was a stake and oar ferry, later a low cable ferry and since 1922/23 a high cable ferry like today.
Technical specifications
The Grohnder ferry has a length of 24.50 meters and a width of 6.5 meters with an empty draft of 0.40 meters. The ferry boat transports bicycles, cars and other vehicles or up to 45 people across the Weser, with a payload of 12.9 tons.
As a yaw ferry , the Grohnder ferry is only driven by the inclined position of the ferry boat, the so-called yaw position , and thus by the flow of the Weser.
