Grombalia ( Arabic قرمبالية) is a city and capital of a municipality ( delegation ) of around 70,000 inhabitants on the western edge of the Cape Bon peninsula in northeastern Tunisia .
location
Grombalia is about 42 km (driving distance) southeast of the state capital Tunis at an altitude of about 100 m above sea level. d. M. in a comparatively rainy and fertile landscape. The seaside resort of Hammamet is located about 28 km southeast.
economy
The main economic branch of the city and its surroundings is agriculture and here primarily the cultivation of grapes , olives and citrus fruits .
history
The place name Hukulumbarros , which is identified with today's city, has been handed down from antiquity . Many of the Moors expelled by the Christians ( reconquista ) during the reconquest of Andalusia settled in the area.
Attractions
- The city is largely modern and apart from a medieval round tower offers no historically or culturally significant sights.
- Some of the tombs in the colonial-era cemetery are impressive.
- The ruins of the Roman city of Tubernuc are located about 9 km southwest of the village of Ain Tébournouk .
