history

Groz-Beckert site in Albstadt

In 1852 Theodor Groz opened a shop for toys and haberdashery with an attached needlework workshop in Ebingen, a current district of Albstadt. In the same year he produced knitting needles for hosiery for the first time. In 1871 Ernst Beckert founded the company of the same name "Ernst Beckert" for needle production in Eibenberg, near Chemnitz. In 1884 Ernst Beckert relocated his needle factory to Chemnitz .

As early as 1888, Theodor Groz & Söhne founded a company-owned factory health insurance fund for employees, the forerunner of today's BKK Groz-Beckert.

In 1937 the two companies merged. This laid the foundation for today's group. During this time Walther Groz took over the management of the company. Today, in addition to the headquarters in Albstadt, there are other production sites worldwide (Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Portugal, India, China, Vietnam, USA) and sales companies (Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain, Turkey, Mexico, USA, India, Vietnam, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore).

The company was founded from 1996 to 2018 by Dr. Thomas Lindner (* 1951), a descendant of one of the founders. He has been chairman of the supervisory board of Groz-Beckert since 2019. Lindner was also President of the VDMA from 2010 to 2013 .
