The Antonia mine is a former lignite mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the city center district .

history

On March 7, 1890, the quarry owner Theodor Zimmermann marshaled the Antonia mine field for brown coal. He was awarded on August 25, 1890.

business

By letter of 12 November 1920, the heirs of Theodor Zimmermann in reported Oberbergamt Bonn and asked for delivery of all documents relating to the "Sites and drill holes" of mine fields Kathy , Antonia and Neeb . They want to exploit the brown coal now. It is possible that during these economically difficult times - similar to the Saaler Mühle in the Consolidation Alfred mine - lignite was extracted at one point or another for the operation of furnaces. However, it is not known whether lignite was extracted.

Location and relics

The place where the pit was found was on today's premises of the Saint-Gobain Isover G + H AG company (glass floss). The mine field extended between the Stadtmitte train station and the Rodenbach water retention basin as an eastern boundary line. To the west, it stretched over almost the entire Gronau district to the city limits of Cologne .
