The Franziska mine was a non-ferrous metal ore mine in the Bensberg ore district in the Hoffnungsthal district of Rösrath .
history
It cannot be ruled out that Roman mining was already being carried out in the area of the Franziska mine, as has been demonstrated, for example, at the Lüderich mine . Most likely, however, the medieval Pingen, still visible today, to the southeast of the building complex, which is located on the dump of the Franziska tunnel, date from the 13th century and are therefore related to the mining "around the year 1250" by Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden should have operated in order to gain funds for the construction of Cologne Cathedral .
The first written mention took place on April 24, 1837 as Muthung Rothenbach in the Zechenbuch of the Lüderich colliery . At the same time, the Franziska tunnel was also driven in the Rothenbachtal. Incidentally, the date is synonymous with the consolidation with the Lüderich mine. It is not known when it was renamed Grube Franziska .
In 1892 the Franziska shaft was sunk northeast of the village of Hove at the level of the Franziska deposit . ⊙
In the vicinity of the Franziska tunnel, which has now been buried, a group of buildings with a wash house , a Steigerhaus and a pit house developed in the Rothenbachtal towards the end of the 19th century . After the very high-yielding Hangender Sommer deposit was discovered, production on the Franziska shaft was discontinued in 1958. From now on it served as a weather shaft until the mining of the Lüderich mine was completed .
Monument headframe
The headframe belonging to the shaft is a single-storey strut frame in half-timbered construction with a rivet construction and two rope sheaves lying next to each other . The headframe is the oldest surviving headframe in the Rhineland and is of developmental importance. The headframe is entered under No. 9 in the list of architectural monuments in Rösrath .
