The Silberwiese mine was a mine near the local communities of Rott and Eichen in the Altenkirchen district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

The pit was first mentioned in 1795, but it is probably older. The ore mining increased from 1815 under Prussian administration. On March 30, 1827, the mine consolidated. In 1916 the shaft of the mine was created. It reached a depth of 520 m. Up to 400  staff members worked in the mine until it was closed on May 31, 1941. In 1926, 73,200 t of iron ore were mined, the total output was 1.249 million t of ore. There was a 2 km long narrow-gauge railway to Oberlahr to load the ore. Two steam locomotives were in operation on it.

Consolidation

Since 1930 there was a consolidation with the Harzberg mine in Burglahr / Peterslahr . It existed from 1803. In 1833 a consolidation took place. Civil engineering began in 1872, the shaft reached a depth of 420 m and was shut down on September 30, 1895. A cable car had existed since 1876. The following funding was achieved:

  • 1877: 10,831 t of iron ore
  • 1883: 16,803 t of iron ore
  • 1884: 5,396 t of brown iron stone, 6,198 t of spate iron stone, 26 t of copper ore
  • 1885: 14,581 t of iron ore

In 1939 the mining operations were completely stopped.
