The Silistria mine is a former non-ferrous metal ore mine on Grubenstrasse (Kreisstrasse 36) in Kurenbach in the town of Hennef (Sieg) in the Rhein-Sieg district .

history

No precise information is yet available about the beginnings of the Silistria mine. Lead and zinc ore were mined . In 1865, eighty miners extracted 528 tons of zinc blende, in 1884 it was 2,267 tons. In 1889 the name was also used for the surrounding mines owned by Stollberger Zink AG . These included Uhland , Caroline , Helene 2 , Blume and Ernst . In 1891 the deposits were exhausted and operations were shut down.

Operation and facilities

The operating buildings of the former mine were in the south of Kurenbach. The hammer mill in the Hanfbachtal also belonged to it . For safety reasons, old tunnel entrances to the mine were walled up and filled in in the 1960s. The overburden, mainly quarry stone , was used for road construction in the surrounding Hanfbachtal and was used for stream and slope fortifications.

Local history

In 1910 there was the household of the quarry worker Philipp Weber in Silistria. At that time the site belonged to the Geistingen community .
