Grumett was an automobile brand from Uruguay .
history
The vehicles were manufactured by Espósito SA in Montevideo . The body was manufactured by Super SA in Nueva Helvecia . The client was the entrepreneur and designer Horacio Torrendell. Production began between 1968 and 1970, depending on the source.
Models
All vehicles had a tubular frame on which a body made of glass fiber reinforced polyester resin was placed.
The first model - the Grumett 1825 (also Grumett SL 1825 ) - was built until 1977. The vehicle had a 1.2-liter Vauxhall engine with 47 DIN hp and was available as a two-door pick-up with a double cab and (more rarely) as a coupé and station wagon. The prototype was developed at Vauxhall in Great Britain. Around 2000 vehicles of this type were produced.
Visually derived from the Vauxhall Viva HC was the Grumett Indiana (also Indiana or Opel Indiana ), a three-door sedan with a 1.1-liter engine and 56 SAE hp, which was produced from 1972 to 1974. However, since the technology was based on the Opel Kadett B, the track was relatively narrow in relation to the body. This made the car look a bit disproportionate. Of this model, 4968 copies are said to have been made.
In 1976 the Grumett 250M was introduced. It looked like the Opel Kadett C Caravan. Since the Brazilian GM subsidiary in Uruguay did not offer a corresponding model, Grumett was able to fill a gap in the market with this vehicle. The model received the front of the Brazilian Chevrolet Chevette and the designation Grumett Color in 1980 .
The model range was expanded to include panel vans, pick-ups (from 1978) and coupé (from 1977). All vehicles from 1976 onwards had a 1.4-liter engine from GM Brazil. Pick-up and coupé had the front of the Vauxhall Chevette from the start.
Some vehicles were exported to Argentina, Ecuador (as Aymesa ) and Spain. Other export markets were Honduras and Guatemala.
Production ended in 1982.
