Pingo was a Uruguayan car brand.

Brand history

The national assembly plant for Volkswagen Dasur started producing a stand-alone model in 1974. The designer was Daniel Barreto from Montrago. The brand name was Pingo because Volkswagen did not consent to the use of the VW brand name. Production ended in the same year. A total of twelve vehicles were built.

The only model was similar to the VW Type 181 . The basis was a chassis from VW. On an open two-door bodywork was fiberglass mounted. An air-cooled four - cylinder boxer engine with a 77 mm bore , 69 mm stroke , 1285 cm³ displacement and 38  hp was placed in the rear. He drove the rear wheels. The wheelbase was 2400 mm and the track width was 1305 mm at the front and 1290 mm at the rear. The maximum speed was given as 120 km / h.
