Architecture and history

The three-storey school building was built around 1880. Other information cites the years 1862/63 as the construction time. Previously there was a Latin school at this point. The risalit-like middle part of the representatively designed clinker building is somewhat elevated and is crowned on the sides by tower-like attachments. The facade has 14 axes, six of which are on the central projections.

The school was used as an elementary school, later as a middle school and in the time of the GDR as a polytechnic high school. It has been operated as a primary school since 1991. From 2004 to 2006 the building and the open spaces were renovated. Today the school is named after the German educator Adolph Diesterweg . It is run in two classes and attended by around 160 children (as of 2016/17). The school catchment area includes the Bernburg valley town, Strenzfeld and Aderstedt . Ten teachers, one remedial teacher and three pedagogical staff teach. In addition to eight classrooms, there is an auditorium, a gym, a library, work room, a computer cabinet, a dining room and several other rooms.

The school has received several awards as an environmental school.

The school is registered as a monument in the monument register for the city of Bernburg under registration number 094 60104 .
