Location of Aderstedt in Bernburg (Saale)

Since January 1st, 2003, Aderstedt has been part of the district town of Bernburg (Saale) in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Aderstedt is located about seven kilometers southwest of Bernburg on a connecting road that branches off from federal highway 185 to Plötzkau . Due to its location on the western slope of the Saale , a former wine-growing area , you have a wide view of the Saale floodplain from Aderstedt.

history

Aderstedt was first mentioned in a deed of donation from King Heinrich IV on August 20, 1063, in which he gave the place in Schwabengau to Bishop Burchard II of Halberstadt , who gave the property to the Benedictine order in 1086 . From now on Aderstedt is administered by the St. Peter and Paul Monastery in Ilsenburg (Harz) . The Aderstedt estate became an important property of the Ilsenburg Abbey and the starting point for its church policy; for 500 years it supported Ilsenburg's economic and political power on the Saale, under the rule of the Ascanian counts and later princes and dukes of Anhalt .

According to records from 1517, the monastery courtyard had a tavern , which was located on the site south of today's churchyard and was supplied with beer from the court brewery. To get to the tavern, the guests had to go through the cemetery, which scared them especially in the evening. For this reason, the licensing law was changed and the inn was soon moved to the village. Through the destruction of the Ilsenburg Monastery in the Peasants' War and the subsequent secularization , Aderstedt finally achieved a certain degree of independence. In 1550 and 1565 the plague raged in Aderstedt.

After the introduction of the Reformation , the place became Protestant and in 1580 was sold to Prince Joachim Ernst von Anhalt . During the Thirty Years' War , Aderstedt was repeatedly devastated by various parties in 1635 and 1644. The reconstruction of the village church dragged on until 1666.

Since 1803 the community has belonged to the Principality of Anhalt-Bernburg , which in 1863 was united to form a unified Duchy of Anhalt after the lines of Anhalt-Bernburg and Anhalt-Köthen had expired . In 1918 Anhalt became a Free State in the Weimar Republic . Since January 1st, 2003, Aderstedt has been part of the administrative community of Bernburg an der Saale and is administered by a local mayor.

Culture and sights

Buildings

The most important building in Aderstedt is the neo-Romanesque parish church of St. Paul (formerly St. Hypolyt), the oldest components of which date from the 13th century. The two slim, 36 m high towers that characterize the landscape were built in 1860–1861 during a comprehensive renovation by Albrecht Hummel, a site manager for Ferdinand von Quast , at the request of Princess Friederike von Anhalt-Bernburg on the side of the old westwork ( consecrated on October 31, 1861 ). Two Romanesque portals have been preserved from the earlier furnishings . The north is a high quality column portal with cube capitals , corner masks and a chessboard frieze. The bell in the tower was cast in the 13th century. Furthermore, two tombstones from the Renaissance as well as late baroque and classical tombstones in the churchyard have been preserved.

Also worth mentioning are various baroque farmsteads , the Aderstedter riding stable and the grave site in the local cemetery for a Polish slave laborer known by name who was employed on the Meißner estate and was shot by the local police for allegedly attempting to escape.

Regular events

Every year, the place Strengefest held that after austerity , one old arm of the river Saale is named.
