The Gruner family is a former citizen family from the city of Bern, originally from Zwickau (Saxony) and later based in Seengen .

history

The progenitor of the Gruner family is Johannes Gruner († 1568), conventual of the Johanniterhaus Küsnacht and, after the Reformation, pastor in Seengen. His two sons were also theologians. Johannes Gruner († 1587) was a preacher at the infirmary, pastor in Aarwangen and Kirchberg. His younger brother Samuel Gruner († 1625) was pastor in Kölliken, Aarburg, Seon, Seengen and finally dean of the Aarau class. The descendants of the two brothers formed the two main branches of the family, who worked in large numbers as clergy, notaries, clerks, officers and various craft professions such as bakers, butchers, tanners, shoemakers, watchmakers, belters, swordsmiths, nailers, plumbers and stonemasons . Correspondingly, branches of the Gruner belonged to the companies of Pfistern , butchers , blacksmiths , Ober-Gerwern , Mittellöwen , shoemakers , weavers , merchants and monkeys .

Members of the family branch owned the paper mill in Worblaufen near Bern and an estate in Zimmerwald in the 18th and 19th centuries .
