Grupo Sal
Grupo Sal is a Latin American music group that has been drawing attention to explosive development and environmental issues musically and artistically since it was founded in 1982. Through its programs, Grupo Sal takes a position for a just world, a dignified coexistence and calls for an encounter of peoples and solidarity.
Band history
In 1982 Grupo Sal was founded by Roberto Deimel from Chile (vocals, percussion, cuatro, guitar) and Fernando Dias Costa from Portugal (vocals, percussion). In addition to founding member Fernando Dias Costa, the band consisted of five other musicians in 2013: Aníbal Civilotti from Argentina (vocals, percussion, guitar), Omar Plasencia from Venezuela (vibraphone, percussion, guitar, vocals), Harald Schneider from Germany (soprano and tenor saxophone , Clarinet), Andreas Franke from Germany (soprano and tenor saxophone, clarinet) and Kurt Holzkämper from Germany (double bass).
In 2012 Grupo Sal celebrated its 30th anniversary.
music
Inspired by the Indian, African and European roots up to the latest developments in multicultural scenes in the pulsating metropolises, Grupo Sal presents an independent interpretation of Latin American music.
In their concerts they deal with Latin American topics such as the destruction of the rainforest. The songs tell of a simple life, of poverty and need, but also of love, hope and of freeing yourself from oppression and despair on your own.
Cooperations
In close cooperation with Pan y Arte , Grupo Sal expresses its attachment to Nicaragua. Among other things, they support the “ Casa de los tres mundos ” (Eng .: House of Three Worlds) cultural project .
Over the years the tradition of working together with committed personalities, writers and actors and holding concert readings developed over the years: For example, programs such as "500 Years of Solitude" were created with Dietmar Schönherr .
Since 1993 Grupo Sal has had a close friendship and cooperation with the liberation theologian Ernesto Cardenal . Since then they have been giving concert readings together. The tour “Born from Stars” in autumn 2012 was dedicated to his newly published poetic oeuvre.
There were other successful tours with the writer Gioconda Belli from Nicaragua and the late theologian Dorothee Sölle and with Fulbert Steffensky .
Grupo Sal accompanied Bishop Álvaro Ramazzini (Guatemala) on his travels to Germany with performances on the subject of "Forgotten Peace - Human Rights in Guatemala" and presented the program "Concert for Amazonia" with Abadio Green from the Tule people , Thomas Brose from the Climate Alliance and the Iranian draftsman Mehrdad Zaeri.
