Group 73

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Group 73 was named after its formation in association Salzburg artists as progressive as "abstract" painting, saw itself. The initiator was Hermann Ober , born in 1920 , who was also the oldest member of this association. After the experiences of the Second World War he had come to the conviction that “after the 'realistic' art of the Third Reich ... art can only be abstract” . The main characteristic of the members of group 73 was seen in the abstract rendering of the natural model.

In addition to Hermann Ober , Werner Otte, Walter L. Brendel, Hubert Fuschlhammer, Johann Jascha , Rudolf Höhenwarter, Ines Höllwarth, Hans Müller, Ingrid Oberascher, Beppo Pliem, Martin Rasp, Marianne Schenk, Karl Schindler, Slavi Soucek (Honorary President), Herbert Stejskal, Yoshi Takahashi and Heinrich Tilly . The custos at the Museum Carolino Augusteum Albin Rohrmoser was elected chairman of this association-like group .

The first exhibition of this group took place as a folk festival happening in 1974 in the Salzburger Künstlerhaus . It is noteworthy that a graphic cassette and graphic portfolio were also presented to the public, although print graphics had been neglected in previous years. In the following years exhibitions were held in Bernkastel-Kues , Innsbruck , Erlangen , Cologne , Krems , Nuremberg , Vicenza and 1979 in Duisburg (here at least in the Wilhelm-Lehmbruck-Museum ). This year also marks the end of Group 73.
