Exhausted
The ravine-like Gsteinigt (dialect Gschtune ) is traversed by the Röslau (a tributary of the Eger ) between the places Elisenfels and Arzberg in the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains .
Geology and flora
The course of the river has made its way there through a narrow gneiss threshold and the Phyllite and forms a narrow rock valley. The tree population is diverse, shrubs, herbaceous layers, mosses and lichens are rich in species (canyon forest vegetation). The well-structured mixed forest also offers a favorable habitat for the bird world.
history
In 1817 the valley was described as follows: “Countless pieces of rock have rolled down into his bed, and he throws himself over them with a roar. The spruce forest stretches down to the shore and makes the barely passable valley even darker and more gruesome ... Although the usual route to Arzberg is more comfortable and shorter, it is still worthwhile to follow the footpath through this valley in a variety of ways the construction of the railway began, the valley near Elisenfels was made more accessible. In the summer of 1884, a beautification association was formed that took on the task of making the "Gasteune" accessible. Since then, a footpath has meandered between the steep rock faces and the Röslauf river through the rock valley. The Röslauweg and Fränkischer Gebirgsweg hiking trails created by the Fichtelgebirgsverein (FGV) lead through the valley .
Ownership
The Fichtelgebirgsverein has made nature conservation work its task in particular. For example, areas in the Gsteinigt were acquired for the purposes of nature conservation and landscape maintenance, which the local history association had been offered for sale by the company Fastner & Co. GmbH, Elisenfels. The FGV main committee decided on January 4, 1996 to purchase approximately twelve hectares, the purchase agreement was notarized on June 5, 1996. The Bavarian Nature Conservation Fund, the city of Arzberg, the district of Wunsiedel and the FGV local group Arzberg contributed to the costs of approx. 130,000 DM.
natural reserve
Already in 1938 the Gsteinigt was declared a protected natural monument; it is number 81 of Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes .
Geotope
This gorge in the eastern Fichtelgebirge is a geotope in the Wunsiedel district (479R027). Since August 6, 2009, it has had the quality seal of the State Office for the Environment as one of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria .
Mining
The Silberquelle, which was built in 1919, is located on the hiking trail through the Gsteinigt . It is reminiscent of the mining industry in the Arzberg iron ore district. In the silver source 1863, a 100 meter long was cleats into the rock driven , which for the discharge of mine water of Morgenstern-shaft should serve. Remains of a wheel room, a landing wall for ore barges and a weir go back to this time. The tunnel mouth hole has been open to the public since 2009 .
