The Franconian mountain path - in 2007 as a long-distance path opened - opens the northeastern francs for hikers and is an alternative to the northern part of francs path .
The Franconian Mountain Trail - like the Frankenweg - has its starting point at the end of the Rennsteig in Blankenstein in the Franconian Forest . It leads a total of 440 km through Franconian Forest, Fichtelgebirge and Steinwald , Franconian Switzerland and Hersbrucker Switzerland . The end of the route is Hersbruck . There the Franconian Mountain Trail joins the Frankenweg again .
45 kilometers of the long-distance hiking trail are in the Franconian Forest, 220 km in the Fichtel Mountains, 120 km in Franconian Switzerland and 32 km in Hersbrucker Switzerland. It also touches the towns of Issigau , Rothleiten , Selbitz , Schauenstein , Edlendorf , Laubersreuth , Münchberg , Zell im Fichtelgebirge , Weißenstadt , Kirchenlamitz , Arzberg , Waldsassen , Fuchsmühl , Pullenreuth , Nagel , Bischofsgrün , Creußen , Obernsees , Aufseß , Hollfeld , Waischenfeld , Pottenstein , Pegnitz , Betzenstein and Plech .
The trail is maintained by the Franconian Forest Association , the Fichtelgebirgsverein , the Franconian Switzerland Association and the Franconian Alb Association and supported by the Franconian Tourism Association. The official opening of the path took place at the end of September 2007 on the Ochsenkopf by Bavaria's Environment Minister Werner Schnappauf .

Award
The German Hiking Association has awarded the Franconian Mountain Trail the title Quality Trail Hikable Germany . Among other things, the naturalness, signage, hiking-knowledgeable staff, hiking breakfast and the possibility of luggage transport were evaluated.
