The Guangdong Southern Tigers Football Club (simplified Chinese: 广东 华南虎 足球 俱乐部; traditional Chinese: 廣東 華南虎 足球 俱樂部; pinyin: Guǎngdōng Huánánhǔ Zúqiú Jùlèbù), commonly known as the Guangdong Southern Tigers (simplified Chinese: 广东 华南虎; traditional Chinese : 廣東 華南虎), is a professional Chinese football club currently participating in the China League One under license from the Chinese Football Association (CFA) . The team is based in Meixian District in Meizhou City ( Guangdong ) and its home stadium is the Meixian Tsang Hin-chi Stadium , which seats 20,221 people. Its current majority shareholder is the engineering and construction company Shenzhen Techand Ecological Environment .
history
The club was founded on July 3, 2003 as Dongguan Nancheng Football Club (东莞 南城 足球 俱乐部) by the Dongguan Sports Bureau, which they originally founded as Guangdong Hongyuan FC, but then sold the franchise . The club then appeared as a foreign team within the league in the Hong Kong First Division League 2003/04. In 2005, the club left the league again and entered the third Chinese division ( League Two ). After a disappointing 2005 season, the club withdrew from the league and dissolved its first team. Nevertheless, he kept his youth system after the end of the season.
The club appeared again in 2011 in League Two and reached the playoffs for promotion. The club moved to Meizhou City after that season and changed its name to Meixian Hakka FC. On December 12, 2012, it was the first professional football club in Meizhou, the city that is often referred to as the "home of football" in China, as the ball game was first introduced here by Europeans. On December 30, 2016, Meizhou the club changed its name to Meizhou Meixian Techand FC in order not to be confused with local rival Meizhou Hakka .
In 2017 the team rose to the second highest division (League One). In January 2019, the club was renamed Guangdong Southern Tigers FC.
