The term Guanlin usually includes the so-called "Forest of Guan" ( Chinese  關 林  /  关 林 , Pinyin Guānlín ) - that is, the tomb of Guan Yu - and the Guanlin Temple located there - a temple dedicated to Guan Yu. They are located in the Guanlin ( 关 林镇 ) community in the Luolong district of Luoyang in the Chinese province of Henan , about 7 km from the old town of Luoyang. The temple, built in the time of the Ming Dynasty , is dedicated to Guan Yu , the hero of the Three Kingdoms and faithful general of Liu Bei , the founder of the Shu Han empire. He had been defeated and executed by General Lü Meng of the Wu Dynasty (during the Three Kingdoms Period). His severed head was sent to Cao Cao the Wei, but Cao Cao had the head buried in full honor at the (later) temple. The temple was built in the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty and expanded during the Qing Dynasty . The site Guanlin ( Guanlin ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6–639) since 2006 . In addition to the Guanling Mausoleum (in Dangyang , Hubei Province ) and the Guandi Temple of Xiezhou ( Shanxi Province ), the Guanlin Temple (tomb) is one of three large Guan Yu temples in China.
