Dangyang

Dangyang ( Chinese 當陽市 / 当阳市 , Pinyin Dāngyáng Shì ) is an independent city in the province of Hubei in the southeast of the People's Republic of China . It belongs to the administrative area of the prefecture-level city of Yichang . Dangyang has an area of 2,159 km² and approx. 485,715 inhabitants (end of 2004).
Administrative structure
At the community level, Danyang consists of three street districts and seven large communities . These are:
- Street district Yuyang (玉 阳 街道), 120.9 km², 99,144 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- Street district Baling (坝 陵 街道), 168.2 km², 55,111 inhabitants;
- Street district Yuquan (玉泉 街道), 265 km², 44,217 inhabitants;
- Lianghe municipality (两 河镇), 90.3 km², 36,346 inhabitants;
- Large municipality of Herong (河 溶 镇), 221.5 km², 58,120 inhabitants;
- Greater community Yuxi (淯溪镇), 374.3 km², 55,366 inhabitants;
- Greater community Miaoqian (庙前镇), 332.2 km², 40,615 inhabitants;
- Wangdian municipality (王 店镇), 264.9 km², 39,603 inhabitants;
- Large municipality of Banyue (半月 镇), 217.3 km², 31,978 inhabitants;
- Large community Caobuhu (草 埠 湖镇), 97.8 km², 25,215 inhabitants.
history
In 219 , the penultimate year of the Han Dynasty , General Guan Yu was killed near the city of Mai . His head was brought to Cao Cao , who had a wooden body made by Guan Yu and buried at Luoyang . However, Guan Yu's real body was buried in Dangyang. In the Sui Dynasty , Guan Yu was very venerated, and finally in 1536 in the Ming Dynasty a large temple, the Guanling , was built for him . This tomb is still preserved and is the city's most important attraction.
On August 11, 2016, at least 21 people died in an explosion at a coal-fired power station in Dangyang, and five others were injured, some seriously.
