He came from a noble family and was a monk in the Benedictine abbey of Molesme around 1085 . 1094 he founded together with a group of confreres as a branch of Molesme the monastery Notre-Dame des Alpes or d'Aulps in today to France and then to the County of Savoy belonging Chablais (24 km southwest of Thonon-les-Bains and 9 km north-east of Morzine ) and was its abbot from 1113 to 1138 . In 1120 the monastery gained independence from Molesme through Pope Kalixt II and, under the influence of Bernard of Clairvaux, joined the Cîteaux monastery in 1136 , from which the Clairvaux Filiation was founded.
